| LAUNCH at AAPEX and SEMA 2009 |
| The continued downturn in the economy had one positive effect for this year's AAPEX and SEMA show--it weeded out the tire-kicker. The infamous "lemme see whatcha got here" or the "So, whatcha got new this year" sort of attendee. In fact, the level of attendee we saw at the show rose dramatically, even in comparison to last year's. Typical booth attendees were Presidents and CEOs of companies, as well as head Purchasing Managers or Buyers. And this is just the person we try so hard to get close to. From numerous emails to cold calls, they almost always seem to elude even the best of usemails us. So we have the economy to thank for this-but we need to mention this:Launch, the brand; Launch the Diagnostic and Wheel Service Line Manufacturer, has also grown in brand recognition and familiarity in people's eyes. Not only were we the ones doing the "seeking", we were also being sought after. And that says a lot for a company that has only been in the US for a little over 5 years! A typical conversation overheard this year was "How do I get you guys to build this for me?" and "We need to carry your product!" And this did translate to sales and BIG opportunities. There were many firsts this year for the AAPEX and SEMA show. For starters, we had a scissors lift and demo vehicle within the AAPEX booth! Folks were always amazed at the depth of our scan tool coverage, but this year, we actually PROVED it to them. With a 2007 Audi A4 on the lift, we performed many bi-directional operations, aside from the usual live data readings and adaptive resets! During set-up, one upper level management person from Launch was actually squirted by the windshield washers, while no one was in or near the car! Gotta love that Diagun--good for about 300 feet of unbridled WIRELESS connectivity! Which brings us to a bit of an aside: at this year's show, Launch's battle cry was "We are the Wireless Experts"! And this indeed set us apart from the rest of the crowd! Going back to the lift-which was a challenge to install since we opted to install it by ourselves (all three of us--John Bailey, David Sierra and Victor Rivilla), the hardwork was definitely worth it! The lift hit home the fact that Launch has many facets-with just as many product offerings! It brought to fruition the fact that Launch truly offers a full range of automotive servicing equipment-from Diagnostic to Under Car. And to the attendee, it accelerated the perception of Launch, from a once foreign code reader company, known for its little code readers, to a more well-rounded and formidable force to be reckoned with. Not only can we perceive this growth through the eyes of the attendees, we can also measure it in the actions of our competitors. This year, Launch was one of the first companies to pick its booth space. For weeks, other companies were holding out-and then finally, Autoland Scientech picked their booth--right next to ours! Then Hanatech, Nextech, Autel and Autologic soon picked their booth spaces-all within an earshot of the Launch booth! But this did not deter us; in fact, it only cemented the fact that people were taking notice of Launch and that we are no longer flying under anyone's radar! And in the midst of our competitors, we stood proud. And not only did the size of our peninsula booth eclipse them-we also had more to show and offer the attendee. More solutions: from a simple code reader to the more complex and intricate, Diagun, all the way through to the X631 Wheel Aligner, which was treated to a very warm welcome from the crowd! Yet another first for this year was Launch's entry into the SEMA show with its own booth! Tended to by Technical Director, Jeff Zusman and Marketing Manager, Sam Shi, the SEMA booth proved to be very busy! It also gained us a much needed presence into the DIY anneeded and performance-oriented market. See report by Jeff Zusman attached! Launch also held a raffle at the top of every hour! If you had your badge scanned, your name was entered into a tumbler and if chosen, you got to spin the Wheel of Fortune! This was a definite attention grabber as only Vanna White was missing! None the less, folks enjoyed spinning the wheel for a chance to win a Creader 5, Crecorder, Launch Pen or Hat. Did we have Promos and Raffles! We sure did! This year, we ran a promo which allotted 2 Masters for every 10 Pro-line models bought, as well as a cash back rewards program based on dollars spent. This two-punch promo really lit up the tires of buyers, as nearly all of our regular distributors took part, with orders still coming in last minute! But it wasn't all work. On the 2nd evening of the show, Launch treated its distributors, reps, guests and employees to a very wonderful sit down dinner at PF Changs! Drinks and conversation flowed effortlessly as folks got to know each other. There were a lot of oleach old faces and some new ones. It was great meeting our Chinese counterparts in PF Chang's very relaxed setting! At the last day of the show, we also held a raffle-much like we do every year--and with the same result! Tom Williamson again won the top prize of a Diagun Full Package, with Greg Hovsepian and Carlos Menchu, winning second and third prize! If asked to pick one word to describe 2009's AAPEX and SEMA show, it would be the word "Promise". After meeting with the caliber of attendees and forging the partnerships we've made, along with seeing the reactions folks had with where the Launch product line is-both Diagnostic and Wheel Service-one is filled with promise for the coming year. Large orders were placed and some are still coming in. It looks like the cloud has lifted and we may be in for an economic rebound. And this bodes brightly for Launch as we are poised to continue our momentous growth well into 2010 and beyondbeyond! Thanks for Your Support at this year's AAPEX and SEMA show! See you next year! ~Team LAUNCH Tech USA |
